Standards & Classes

Many times I’ve heard: “This is how it should be.”, but who is actually defining how things should be, and what are those definitions based on?

We measure, evaluate and judge – referring to the accepted norms and standards. Standards & Classes deals with the definition of the cucumber and the question of how this seemingly simple fruit should be, taste and look like. To have the variety of two identical fruits in the supermarket, the once natural plant has to be controlled and corrected by science, technology and bureaucracy.

Our urge for structure and control leads to the suppression of diversity and reinforces the concept of conformity.
